|What is a Chiropractor? |
Chiropractors are licensed doctors who specialize in the location and correction of Spinal Subluxations using the Spinal Adjustment. We are trained in musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment relating to pinched nerves. These pinched nerves are due to mechanical imbalances of the human frame. Chiropractors have many years of study in the muscular, spinal and nervous systems and their relationship to normal body functions. This makes us highly qualified to care for numerous chronic and severe conditions.
Chiropractic in the Healthcare System
Today's healthcare system recognizes the need to integrate modern chiropractic care into mainstream treatment options. We commonly receive referrals from medical institutions and private practitioners. With our knowledge, experience and training we are able to successfully treat many health conditions without the use of drugs and surgery.
Today, more people are recognizing the need for chiropractic care first, before drugs and/or surgery. This has in turn influenced government acceptance and support. Licensing standards for the practice of chiropractic exist in many parts of the world and there are chiropractic colleges in the U.S., Canada, Australia, England, Denmark, France, Japan and South Africa. In most US states, Medicare, Worker's Compensation, No-Fault, Personal Injury and many health insurance policies now include coverage for chiropractic care. In most cases, this non-medical alternative is far more cost-effective and safer than standard allopathic care.
A Safe & Effective Solution
There is no healthcare system that is "an exact science" and everyone has their own opinion, even practitioners of the same discipline. It is important to get different opinions and educate yourself about your options when making choices about your health. This non-medical, non-surgical approach of chiropractic is especially valuable considering the widespread misuse of prescription and over the counter drugs (ibuprofen, aspirin, etc). The margin of error on both the physician's and the patient's side is too high to be considered lightly. Furthermore, taking medication usually comes with side affects which are often diagnosed as an other illness or an Iatrogenic Disease. Then more medicine is prescribed to treat that. Possible side effects, complications, and long term effects are something we should all be concerned with.
The public can use its right to choose the safest and most effective route to good health if they keep themselves informed. Chiropractic care is safe and effective without the occurrence of complications. While chiropractors acknowledge the necessity of medicine and surgery, we are proud of being part of the world's largest and safest drugless healthcare system.
